joan_psmith: text that reads: 'merlin's pants!' (merlin's pants!)
A while ago I posted a couple of t-shirt designs that I'd uploaded to mysoti. I thought you might be interested to know that if you like them but don't want to order them from mysoti you can download these designs from my deviantart page, change them, print them out and iron them on, whatever you want. I added the download links to the original post.

Plus, there's a new one. :)

myself & colin

myself & colin tee by joanpsmith. Available from MySoti.com. I know who I'm quoting, you know who I'm quoting. And if you really don't, then what do you want with that shirt anyway? Not that I'd be stopping you wearing it. ;)

- You can also download the design to do whatever you want with it here.

Disclaimer: These are rather obscure fan shirts that I doubt infringe any copyright. But just to be on the safe side I want to point out that I do not make any money of this. If you buy the shirts from mysoti I do not get any commission whatsoever!

There's been a lot going on in regards to gay rights in Italy last week. There's been a verdict that calling someone "gay" as an insult is a fineable offence, and Italians are still waiting for a decision on gay marriage.

Would a ban on same-sex marriage be unconstitutional? )

In the current issue of their journal German history teacher's platform Lernen aus der Geschichte (Learning from History) focuses on the situation of homosexuals in National Socialist Germany.

The issue, titled Homophobe Traditionen (Homophobe Traditions) summarises previous work on the subject and recommends teaching material, all of which is equally educational even if you aren't a history teacher.

I love thematic t-shirts. I seriously do. A far too big amount of my money goes into purchasing them. And sometimes I come up with t-shirt ideas of my own. I guess it was only a matter of time until I opened an account at mysoti.

Historical Accuracy is so passé!

Historical Accuracy tee by joanpsmith. Available from MySoti.com. Medieval tomatoes and potatoes? Pshaw! Here's a simple shirt that educates the world about the fact that Historical Accuracy is so passé!

- You can also download the design to do whatever you want with it here.

meta!cosplay for the really lazy

idiot servant tee by joanpsmith. Available from MySoti.com. idiot servant
So you want to dress up as your favourite wizard cum insolent manservant and can't be bothered to go out shopping for neckerchiefs? For the initiated a simple shirt that says idiot servant will suffice anyway.
royal prat tee by joanpsmith. Available from MySoti.com. royal prat
You'd never admit that you're arrogant, supercilious, condescending and patronising? Then you probably won't be comfortable wearing a shirt that says royal prat. Too bad, you would have looked fetching in it, I assure you.

- You can also download these designs to do whatever you want with them here.

Who can honestly say they've never dreamt about exploring space, about setting foot on other planets? I know that I can't. Being outside the protective atmosphere of our planet, a space suit the only thing separating us from space - I imagine life can't get much more exciting than that. The woman I want to write about for this year's Ada Lovelace Day makes these space explorations possible for humankind in the first place.

If you've ever wondered if the country you're currently living in will protect you against homophobic hate crimes this map by ILGA Europe will come in handy. It highlights those 18 European countries that explicitly mention homophobia in their legislation against hate crimes and it provides a short summery of each country's laws against homophobia.

I'm ridiculously pleased that I finally (finally!) managed to sit myself down and write a tiny little original fic. Since it really is very short I was able to also post it to ficly (a social platform for original fiction with a 1024 character limit). If you have a ficly account feel free to add me there. I always love to make new friends. :)

Dare [~ 200 words]
Summary: Instead of taking what she wanted, which tended to have the side effect of people being able to blame her for wanting it in the first place, Celia had learned to get people to fulfil her wishes without her even asking.

Each year gaysir.no, a news site and online community for LGBT people in Norway, puts together this list of those out women in their country, who were most prominent in the fight against homophobia (see last year's eurOut report). The majority of the women on this list made an appearance on it in previous years ( 2007, 2008, 2009), but four of them are quite new.

joan y. psmith
is a sci-fi loving, books devouring, silly person.
in real live she isn't called joan y. psmith at all. the p in psmith is a wodehouse reference. it is silent.
she writes weekly articles for eurOut. sometimes she makes up stories and posts them to letters. she is an active member of sparkwood and 21, where she sings, writes songs and plays the bass guitar.
once she even dared to post a video to vimeo.
